More on 900 Genesee

Found out more about the renovations happening at 900-906 Genesee Street. The man behind the project - Rev. Kenyatta T. Cobb - pastor of Hananiah Lutheran Church and chaplain for the Buffalo Police Department, the Erie County Probation Department and Erie County Medical Center.

I had a chance to tour the site again today [quikmap]. Wrote about it here and here last week. Learned all about the buildings recent history today, too. A quick Lexis-Nexis search confirmed what we heard and places a sophisticated marijuana growing operation here at 900 Genesee back about four years ago in October of 2002.
Plants were separated by stage of growth on the building's upper floor: one room featured bud clones, another had larger plants and a third had those ready for harvest. Downstairs, there was a small security office with a bank of screens to monitor the security cameras. read the rest...
In this new slide show one of the workers we met today showed us the 100's of buckets the DEA left behind. All empty. Got to the roof, too. Excellent views. Here's a site plan for the project. All new systems. Lots of love going on here with this project. Come on over and check it out. The guys just uncovered the A. L. Weber sign last month and plan to acid wash the front over the weekend.

Right next door at the King Urban Life Center - located in St. Mary of Sorrows, an exquisite romenesque church and another the bishop wanted to demolish - I just learned that local artist Cornelia Dohse-Peck was the creative inspiration behind the recent Art on Genesee. More about Rev. Kenyatta Cobb next week...
