fixBuffalo - Buildings & Issues Index

Navigating and finding information in a four year old blog has become somewhat of a chore. In order to help readers find their way and make this blog more user friendly I've organized the following index with archives to many of the buildings, houses and issues and developments i've been following.

I've also included a google search window for this blog over on the right hand side. Simply enter the item you are searching - for example a search for "109 Woodlawn Avenue" will yield the following results.

Buildings & Places
Issues
  • Urban Exploration - a collection of links
  • Writing the City
  • Annals of Neglect
    • I'll be tracking Bishop Kmiec's "journey to avoid housing court" and matters relating to the catholic church's downsizing here in Buffalo, NY. I'll try to compare how other Catholic dioceses across the country deal with similar matters including abandoning inner-city property, “demolition by neglect” and housing court issues.
  • Vacant Houses/Broken Promises
    • I'll be collecting my writings here and documenting what I consider to be the defining characteristic of 21st century urban life, the vacant house. Part metaphor, part devloping reflections on urban policy statements from the perspective of the "lived" urban landscape, I'm compelled to write and reflect about this amazing development in our city.

There is a quality even meaner than outright ugliness or disorder, and this meaner quality is the dishonest mask
of pretended order, achieved by ignoring or suppressing the real order that is struggling to exist and to be served.
- Jane Jacobs (1916-2006) from The Death and Life of Great American Cities, 1961.
