I've been doing the Artspace Backyard tours on Saturday's at 11am for a few months now. Last Saturday three recent City Honors grads away at college and still hanging for winter break made the trek with moi as did Joyce who lives in Allentown.
Joyce's family lived on Northampton once upon a time. Here a couple pics from the family album that she wanted me to share. On the back of the older photos someone wrote "1906." I reached into my archive of pix and well...

94 Northampton has been boarded for years and was recently taken hostage by MBBA - learn more about that, right here - and will most probably end up in a landfill.

What a great find and insight to what the area used to look like.
Underneath a lot of siding on the east side is some great wordwork. Its a shame it all gets demolished.
We can see that a lot of these houses would not be out of place on Ashland or elsewhere off of Elmwood. Yet they have been left to rot.
If its not raining this Sat and you have a walk on. I'll be there.
What an unbelievable house it was!It still appears to be in relatively decent shape..They will never be able to build homes of that quality again.

Hard to believe they're the same house, and the existing condition of the house is still remarkable. The building is situated very well - a corner building on Northampton.
Corners are key - like pivots in a steel frame. Without solid corners, the neighborhood loses its form and integrity. I believe we identified this house as worthy of special attention in the Artspace planning document...
This is definitely not landfill material. Does the previous owner know who built the house? A doctor, lawyer, prominent citizen?
Lots of potential in this beauty. What's also interesting is that of the three trees in the old photos, only one remains.
