Got Warhol?

Buffalo Nickel

I first read - How Buffalo Get a Warhol - years ago and mentioned it here, in 2005. I have it filed away with some other good reads in Writing the City. I rarely re-post yet today find myself in dialog with a number of people interested in returning to Buffalo. They are asking all sorts of questions.

Craig Reynolds from Soundlab is on to something and would probably encourage fixBuffalo readers to read and then re-read and then share his short piece How Buffalo Get a Warhol that first appeared in 1997.
Unlike other cities, where it’s easy to sink into the flow of everything’s fine, in Buffalo, you must be a prophet or drown in utter mediocrity. Buffalo demands existential authenticity, and the rock we push up the hill (only to have it roll back down over us time and time again) is our only salvation. Like Rimbaud in the gutters and back–alleys of Paris, in Buffalo, you have no choice but to remake life; there’s no bullshit left to buy, no palace gates to hide behind...read the rest...
Pass it on to your friends in Brooklyn or Berlin. Then ask - Why not Buffalo?

Let me know what you hear and make sure to check out what's coming up at Soundlab - here.

In your opening sentence, don't you mean "How Buffalo GOT a Warhol?"

No. I'm following the language used in Craig's piece.

Craig's words are hauntingly beautiful...

Having lived in some of those "other" cities; I can now proudly call myself a Buffalonian by CHOICE.

I lift my glass to Buffalo's past-present-future and to you David for all you do and to Craig and his magic words that speak straight to my soul saying "yes, you are truly home".

Cheers...
