Bridge Construction - What's (not) Up?

I grabbed this shot late last month along Ellicott Street and while leaving Ulrich's earlier today after lunch, a couple of friends from Germany asked me about the bridge. I realized that nothing has happened at this site for at least 15 months. The bridge is supposed to connect the UB Bioinformatics (yikes...check out the video) building and Hauptman Woodward.

The bridge looked like this last March and in June 2007 - Bridge to Nowhere and ditto a few months later in October 2007.

So...anybody know what's planned and what the time table is for this project?

You're making me nostalgic about the good old days on Buffalo Rising when they bleeped my use of "honkey tube" as racist.

Redesign is required inside the building before the entrance can be pushed through. The remodeling was de-prioritized due to budget constraints, it should be back on track this summer.

what does "honkey tube" mean anyway?

I did research at Roswell. To understand why we need those tubes, think about spending 5 years of your life developing a specialized cell type and then losing them in a snow drift as you take them from one building to the next. Or think about losing $2 million worth of computer equipment to the slush. Or think about accidentally spilling radioactive isotopes after your cart hits some broken concrete.

Yeah, these tubes are necessary, but you just assume racism. It seems everything can be blamed on racism and global warming these days.
